Here's what the critics are saying about Chain Of Events:

"George Genna has spent much of his musical career as an accompanist and musical director to top acts, including Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis, and many others. However, on this trio date, the show-biz elements are absent in favor of Bill Evans-type harmonies and improvising. Genna contributed four originals, but it is his interpretations of six standards that are most intriguing. His rendition of "Moon River" is pretty unrecognizable, and he radically reharmonizes "Days of Wine and Roses." In contrast, Genna also performs a straightforward version of "It Could Happen to You," a thoughtful "Deep in a Dream," and the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends" in 6/4 time. His close interplay with bassist Gary Mazzaroppi and drummer Bill Jones gives this trio its own sound, and the playing is full of creative invention in the spirit of Bill Evans and Paul Bley. Recommended."     (For the original review, click here)
      - Scott Yanow

"...A piano trio outing that rises above the pack via top level musicianship on a set of creative covers of familiar tunes alongside Genna's distinctive originals."   (For the entire review, click here)
      - Dan McClenaghan

"...This trio should receive world wide exposure. It is one of the best new groups I've had the pleasure of hearing in years. Genna has his jazz roots in the classic Bill Evans tradition, stretching and expanding it with his own unique voice. The writing and playing in this CD is "cutting edge, state of the art" jazz. George Genna has put together, with Gary Mazzaroppi and Billy Jones, a musical listening experience that can not only be heard, but felt."
      - Jack Six - bassist/ Dave Brubeck Quartet-'68-'78/'89-'98

Books

George's new book of jazz piano pieces.

***To purchase this book click the cover below.***

This book contains 12 original compositions based on the chord progressions of familiar standard songs. It is intended for teachers and students who are not jazz players but who like jazz and want to get some experience playing in that style. This is not a method book but an example of how things can be done. The harmonies encountered will sometimes be exactly what the fake book changes might indicate, and at other times be embellishments of the the fake book changes using various voicings, passing tones, borrowed and substitution chords. Jazz theory is not within the scope of this book. This book is intended as a stylistic bridge in which the notes on paper take on a sonic meaning based on jazz interpretation. The desire here is to become accustomed to the appearance of the various types of chords and structures as they appear on paper and to achieve an aural correlation so as to bring them to life in the jazz style. This book comes with a CD demonstrating how each song should sound.
